Women Without Limits Weekend

High ropes course
Feedback from the Ellenbrook Women on the Move Project in 2006-2007 indicated that women experience fear about engaging in outdoor activities such as kayaking, bike-riding and bushwalking. Often expressed as a fear of snakes or spiders, of water or of falling and embarrassing themselves, the idea of participating in a coordinated group activity overcomes these doubts for many women.
Abseiling tower

The importance of a supportive and relaxed environment where the skills are not competitive in nature (such as triathlons or orienteering) is paramount. Many women who may have physical barriers, such as weight issues may not participate in a mixed gender activity, or where the instructors are male or where there is pressure to perform.
It was for these reason’s we developed the Women Without Limits Weekend Retreat where 21 women were taken on a weekend of adventure activities including Abseiling, High Rope Walking, Archery and night-time bush walking at the Point Walter Camp in Bicton.

Heading down the abseiling tower
Facilitated entirely by female staff in a friendly and supportive environment meant the weekend was a huge success. Many of the women formed friendships that carried on well after the weekend and many participants told us of renewed vigor in life, self esteem and empowerment.

Bullsbrook Active Women (BAW)

Kayaking on the swan
In Late 2007 MWHCP was successful in a funding application with City of Swan to run a 3 term project called “Bullsbrook Active Women” with the intention of increasing public access to services and general health and wellbeing in this semi-rural area.
Four Outdoor Women Workshops in Kayaking as women were organised. These workshops booked out in a matter of days and evaluations showed high levels of satisfaction and requests for future workshops.
